Derren Brown is back!

Magicians.co.uk | Magic News | Monday, September 26, 2011  |  9 Comments »

Derren Brown returns to Channel 4 this autumn in The Experiments, a brand new four-part series.

Shrouded in the usual secrecy, each of the stand-alone episodes takes the form of a giant social experiment, some of which have been inspired by classic psychology tests; others concocted by Derren himself to illustrate how easily our behaviour can be manipulated.

Derren will attempt to explore the darker side of what makes us tick as human beings and in one show, teach us how to completely change our fortunes. Featuring Derren Brown’s unique combination of ingenious and mind-blowing psychology, magic, illusion, suggestion, stunts and thought-provoking entertainment, The Experiments sees Derren pushing the boundaries in terms of size and scale in order to take a deeper look at human behaviour and reaction.

Bringing Magic to the Theatre

Magicians.co.uk | Magic News | Monday, August 15, 2011  |  15 Comments »

The reviews are in for Ghost The Musical following its West End opening, and magician Paul Kieve’s input as effects designer has been celebrated.

Paul Kieve’s work as an illusionist and magical special effects designer has been universally acclaimed in theatre, film and television across the globe. He is the only magician to advise on the Harry Potter films, and collaborated closely with legendary director Martin Scorcese on his forthcoming movie “Hugo Cabret”.

“The best single argument for putting this film on stage is Paul Kieve’s special effects. Sam puts his hand through a door, Sam disappears into thin air, characters rise up and leave their bodies when they die.. a high concept show becomes credible.” Dominic Maxwell, The Times ****

“Paul Kieve, who created the illusions, and Sharon D Clarke, playing the phoney psychic .. are two of the secret weapons of British theatre, and steal the show with their contributions – the first by stealth, the second with sass.” Mark Shenton, The Stage

Our team have also been to see the show and were enchanted by the stunning illusions and gripping storyline. If you haven’t yet seen Ghost The Musical it is still booking until 13th October 2012 at the Piccadilly Theatre, London.

Guy Hollingworth Brings Magic to The Broad Stage

Magicians.co.uk | Gossip | Monday, August 1, 2011  |  10 Comments »

Guy Hollingworth, a renowned UK magician, debuted The Expert at the Card Table ten years ago at the Edinburgh Comedy Festival to rave reviews, refined the show over many performances into a spellbinding night of magic and mystery, and now brings it to The Broad Stage in Los Angeles, California, under the direction of beloved actor Neil Patrick Harris, who had this to say about the show:

The Expert at the Card Table tells the story of two boys whose innocent love of card tricks develops in adulthood into a dangerous game of hustles, street cons and murder. Published anonymously in Chicago in 1902, the book describes in great detail, original and brilliant methods for conjuring effects, whilst at the same time revealing the author’s true intent, a full exposé of the underground techniques used by hustlers, card cheats and con artists.
