The event was held to raise vital funds for Operation Smile <\/span><span style=\"font-family:; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;\">UK<\/span><span style=\"font-family: ; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;\">, a charity which works with children and young adults in the developing world who suffer from facial disfigurements, particularly cleft lips and cleft palates. The charity was also celebrating its selection by the <\/span><span style=\"font-family: ; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;\">BBC<\/span><span style=\"font-family: ; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;\">\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/cbbc\/bluepeter\/getinvolved\/appeal\/\" target=\"_blank\">Blue Peter <\/a>as the programmes beneficiary charity for the 2009\/2010 appeal. Blue Peter will be raising awareness by engaging their young audience all over the <\/span><span style=\"font-family: ; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;\">UK<\/span><span style=\"font-family: ; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;\"> and asking them to turn unwanted T-shirts into hospital gowns for use at Operation Smile projects worldwide. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; tab-stops: 279.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: ; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; tab-stops: 279.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: ; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;\">The Winter Ball was held at the Royal Hospital Chelsea, and included a silent auction, music, dancing, a live auction and magical entertainment from our magicians <a href=\"http:\/\/www.magicians.co.uk\/performers\/richard-mcdougall.html\" target=\"_blank\">Richard McDougall<\/a>, <\/span><span style=\"font-family: ; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.magicians.co.uk\/performers\/martyn-rowland.html\" target=\"_blank\">Martyn Rowland<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-family: ; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.magicians.co.uk\/performers\/martyn-rowland.html\" target=\"_blank\"> <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.magicians.co.uk\/performers\/the-man-of-steal.html\" target=\"_blank\">James Freedman<\/a>, who amazed guests during the evening. James Freedman also hosted the live auction and worked his \u2018persuasion\u2019 magic to raise a whopping \u00a362,500 for the charity. The total raised at the end of the evening was over \u00a3100,000 and we would like to congratulate Operation Smile on the huge success of the event. It only costs \u00a3150 and as little as 45 minutes to change a child\u2019s life forever and give them a smile.
